A Green Infrastructure Walking Tour: The UC District in Philadelphia – A Student Project

Students from the course, “Green City, Clean Water” presented their final project today and one group of students presented on their project on a Green walking tour. The Philadelphia Water Department already has a website call the Big Green Map. Where various green locations on Philadelphia are posted and individuals can use the map to get a tour of the city’s finest.

This group of students however, found that the website is still lacking. Ideas for the project is to make the map into an actual tour where individuals can go on. Furthermore, the project found lots of support from various organizations such as the Philadelphia Water Department, University City District, University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, etc.

The requirement was to give detail description of each site and with the use of google map and GIS three routes were formed. The group showed the depth of their research. The result product include in document features in the form of PDF, a google map specific for each tour, as well as an electronic copy of the tour.

The project is currently in the ending phase and the various organizations who are interested in the idea will continue to take on the work that these students started. A lot of work is still needed, but I believe that the final project can bring a new face of Philadelphia to visitors. A Green infrastructure tour.
